Maiden Lane LLC is an investment vehicle focused on acquiring small to medium sized businesses ($3-30m in sales, $0.5-5m in EBITDA). Our objective is to find stable businesses that can benefit from entrepreneurial ownership. Our goal is to find businesses that we can grow, not under-invest in to bleed it for cash flow. In terms of management, our preference would be to retain all your employees, not reduce headcount upon assuming ownership.
We are looking for situations where a number of the following are present: having a motivated seller, concentrated ownership (we would prefer to negotiate with 1 or 2 people, not 10), low customer concentration, and low supplier concentration. If we find a business that matches our criteria at a fair market price, we can move quickly in our diligence process to close the transaction. In terms of industry preference, we are agnostic. In terms of geography, we do not plan on relocating your business – we will go where the business resides.
Johnson Elugbadebo, the Founder and Principal at Maiden Lane, has a diverse background that uniquely positions him to continue your business legacy. He has over fifteen years of experience as a leader and team builder in various roles and industries.
Johnson’s professional experience includes work in mergers and acquisitions at Goldman Sachs, and at the Federal Reserve during the 2008 – 2009 global financial crisis (his first day on the job was the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy). While at the Federal Reserve, Johnson was an integral member of a team that led an initiative to reform the way banks trade derivatives, co-authoring the final memo to the Board of Governors recommending the adoption of a central clearinghouse for credit default swaps. He also prepared briefing materials for then Chairman Ben Bernanke and assisted in briefing then Vice-Chair Janet Yellen.
Johnson has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a Master’s Degree from Harvard University, and an MBA from MIT. Johnson currently resides in Cambridge, MA and plans to move where the acquired business is located.
