Wearbest Sil-Tex Mills is a family-run, American textile manufacturer located in New Jersey, primarily serving residential and contract jobbers, as well as furniture manufacturers. While originally founded by Philip Gasner in the 1940s to craft silk linings for men’s suits, by 1960, post-war economic and customer demand shifted the company’s focus to upholstery. In 1980, Philip’s grandson, Irwin Gasner, began to oversee operations as the business blossomed into residential indoor fabrics, woven on Dobby looms.
A fire in 1985 destroyed the Passaic-based mill, and all its records, leaving Irwin to the task of rebuilding – from scratch. A new mill was constructed in Garfield, just 30 minutes from Manhattan, with Jacquard looms replacing the Dobby looms. This change allowed much more styling flexibility, and Wearbest emerged as a leader, winning more prestigious Decosit trend awards than any other American mill.
In 1990, Wearbest introduced contract fabrics, sealing its reputation for design and trend leadership. But the innovation didn’t stop there. In 2005, culminating from decades of textile industry knowledge, perseverance, determination, and years of working with technical and design experts, Wearbest introduced Bella-Dura® -- a high-performance textile for both indoor and outdoor use.
With Irwin’s son Ari Gasner joining the company in 2009 as Executive Vice President, Wearbest moves its legacy into the fourth generation and continues to lead the way in design, innovation and creativity for all the markets it serves.
