Spira Footwear is premised upon a remarkable patented technology called WaveSpring. The WaveSpring is a lightweight, compact spring located in both the heel and forefoot of our shoes.
Our shoes are currently sold nationwide through retailers such as Zappos, Amazon, Hammacher Schlemmer, the FootSmart catalog, and independent retailers.
Runners competing in our shoes have won over 250 major marathons and races, including Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Disney, Miami, Zurich, Istanbul and the master's division in both Boston and New York.
We've been the feature of A&E's PROJECT STARTUP, which included a $500,000 crowdfunding campaign, the most successful in the history of footwear.
Our story has been featured on CNBC, NPR, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Runner's World magazine and countless other publications.
There are any number of benefits associated with our technology over traditional cushioning systems.
First, the WaveSpring doesn't just cushion, but returns energy more efficiently than any other midsole system. About 90% of the energy expended is returned to the wearer, allowing people to participate in activities for longer periods of time with less strain on the body.
Second, the WaveSpring reduces peak impact forces by about 20%. In layman's terms that means that someone weighing 200 pounds, suddenly weighs 160 pounds for purposes of stress on the body.
Third, the WaveSpring works by deflection as opposed to compression like traditional midsole components, with the result that the cushioning quality of the shoe never breaks down and the wearer has a new shoe feel from the first step to the last.
Fourth, the technology is completely tunable. We can change the amplitude of the waves, the thickness of the wire and the number of turns to provide an infinite number durometers and spring rates.
Fifth, we can place the technology in any kind of footwear and there is no category that would not be improved by our technology.
Finally, a recent university study finds that our shoes and technology actually improve metabolic function, including lowered heart rate, and oxygen consumption requirements. Indeed, the study concludes that a typical runners at an 8:30 pace would finish a marathon six minutes faster in Spira than their shoe of choice.
Our team includes several experienced industry executives.
We believe our shoes and technology have the potential to disrupt the entire footwear industry.
