SAEX is a business contacts exchange service with social and gamification twist. SAEX allows users to buy, sell and exchange business contacts lists, which is the way to create a crowdsourced contact list for everyone. The paying customers are the companies that need large amounts of data.
Company Background:
SAEX was launched in 2011 in Russia, and by now it’s the most reliable Russian database of business contacts. The founders saw a huge market for this kind of crowdsourced lists especially in economically unstable periods like that is happening worldwide now. The first attempts to create a market-demanded service failed, but finally the company found its way to success.
Product:
Online contacts marketplace. You may upload a list of contacts, and get points, which can be converted into other contacts or services or money. The service has a unique technology for data actualization.
Customer Problem:
A lot of B2B companies need access to reliable lists of contacts to perform sales, marketing, and other similar activities. The key aspect is data accuracy.
Market:
The list holding is a segment of larger call centers services market, which is valued for $66 billion. There are still no global players in this market, as the call centers services are pretty local. This creates a tremendous opportunity for SAEX to become the major contact data provider in the world. The potentially addressable market is $4 bln.
Business Model:
SAEX uses modified freemium model. Users obtain points every time their contacts are downloaded. The points can be used to purchase the data from other users. If a user needs more points he or she can just buy needed points for money. This model works pretty well in Russia now. The gamification is brought by price variations for each contact: the point price depends on a number of factors.
Competition:
US-based competitor is Jigsaw.com (Data.com) which was acquired by Salesforce.com in 2010. SAEX is rather different from Jigsaw in several ways. First, SAEX is not only US-focused. Second, SAEX uses social networks connectivity to update its database. Third, but definitely not the least is that SAEX rewards its users with money for contacts.
