Marber Capital assists private companies from post-seed to middle market to prepare for capital raising (debt and equity), execute the raise, and then implements or enhances finance infrastructure and risk management procedures to grow the business. Mr. Berman has over 25 years’ experience in finance, first as an equity analyst covering manufacturers in Japan, then on the buy side with the Rockefeller family office doing deep-dive fundamental analysis, valuation and modeling for potential investment. His management experience began in the securities industry where he first led a small team covering the telecom and media industries in Japan for Credit Suisse, then was recruited to grow a research team in Tokyo for Lehman Brothers, where he hired 18 people within the first year, started a quantitative custom products team, and served on the Asian Executive Management committee for Lehman. Mr. Berman left Lehman at the end of 2005 to relocate with his wife and children to San Francisco, where he started Marber Capital to work with private, small to mid-market companies on finance strategy. Mr. Berman is comfortable in multiple industries, and both services and manufacturing. His experience has ranged from small OTC listed parts manufacturers in Japan to covering the largest telecommunications companies in the world. In the private world, his engagements have spanned medical devices, agriculture, digital rights management, diagnostic devices, software, outsourced IT services, and manufacturing. Mr. Berman’s belief is that companies are like the human body—they look different on the outside, but inside what makes them healthy and grow (and cause aches and pains) are similar. Risk management is a key component of each engagement, including IP strategy, insurance review, establishing or reviewing credit lines, reviewing labor, supplier, distributor and contractor contracts, and fraud detection, to name a few. As a regulated Broker Dealer representative on the Growth Capital Services platform*, Mr. Berman is an independent regulated person with an acute focus on rules and regulations, and he has passed the CFA course, the internal control manager (Japan) certification, and has passed Series 79, 62 and 63 exams.
