Rx data measure prescribing behavior at the level of the individual physician and is available at the therapeutic and product levels. ICD data, a coding system maintained by the World Health Organization and the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics, is used to classify causes of death on death certificates and diagnoses, injury causes, and medical procedures for hospital and emergency department visits. It is also available at the individual physician level. CPT® data, a proprietary classification system of the AMA, provides descriptive terms and identifying codes for reporting medical services and procedures. The purpose of CPT® is to provide a uniform language that accurately describes medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. Thereby, it serves as an effective means for reliable nationwide communication among physicians and other healthcare providers, patients, and third parties.
