Carlyle Sofas and Subsidiaries is a custom furniture upholstery manufacturer and distributor. The custom upholstery line consists of two national brands, Carlyle Sofas (www.CarlyleSofa.com) and Avery Boardman (www.AveryBoardman.com) Both the name Carlyle and Avery Boardman are synonymous with the highest quality custom upholstery manufacturing and craftsmanship. Carlyle sells to the retail client and Avery Boardman sells to the trade. Together, both brands have the history and reputation of the finest sofa and sofa beds in the world.
The company has manufactured all of its merchandise through its own division, Sleepable Sofas. All cushions and seating are supplied by Lodi Down & Feather (www.LodiDownandFeather.com), a division of Avery Boardman. Lodi is a custom cushion, pillow manufacturer and distributer of all things down and feather, to the trade. The company has manufactured its products in New Jersey for the past fifty years. Products are sold and distributed solely from our three showroom locations. Avery Boardman has sold to the interior design trade for over forty years. While Carlyle sells to the retail consumer, they too have a small network of trade clients. Lodi Down and Feather supplies both Carlyle and Avery Boardman with all their custom cushions as well smaller upholsters, workrooms, designers and decorators.
While we have built our reputation on building and upholstering the best custom made sofa bed in the world, we have expanded our upholstery line to include beds, headboards, TV lift beds, electric beds, storage beds, chairs, non-convertible sofas, ottomans, sectionals, recliners and almost any upholstery product on the market. We have maintained our catalog of our own designs but quite often have to design and develop ground up custom orders for our trade client. The design starts with a drawing, then a CAD design and finishes with an upholstery piece of furniture exact to its inspirational concept. Our capabilities allow us to collaborate with the most respected designers and architects in the United States and abroad.
Our companies have a rich tradition of service and high quality craftsmanship. We employ master craftsman to upholster and service our furniture. Our manufacturing, design and sale consultant capabilities allow us to safely guide our retail clients as well as professionally collaborate with design industry leaders to bring their vision to life. We service our own product, as well as offer in-house re-upholstery services. It is not uncommon for us to reupholster Carlyle and Avery Boardman pieces that have been in the field for over 40 years.

Avery Boardman was relaunched in 2014 with the vision of providing the design community with a source for all of their custom needs. Through our collaboration with such fabric houses as Pollack and Garrett Leather, we have been able to consistently introduce new designs and design features to our already established product line. We mix both the sophistication of traditional design with cutting edge contemporary sensibilities. The introduction of our TV lift bed in 2014 has resulted in wide praise from the design community.
The bulk of our design clientele supply Avery Boardman with their own fabrics and leathers usually chosen from some of the most respected, cutting edge and expensive fabric mills in the industry. Its not uncommon for these materials to exceed the actual cost of the piece being produced. Many of these materials are in excess of $300 per yard. Being able to see and handle these material designs before they become mainstream allow to us gauge what to show on a retail level offering us a forecasting and staging advantage over traditional retailers.
