A development stage start-up, Brain Backups is developing technology to image mouse and human brains non-destructively and non-invasively. This work is important to develop therapies and drugs for neurological disease and to understand how the brain changes over time.
Brain Backups is actively developing new methods and has developed a number of proprietary techniques for imaging neurons using synthetic biology, MRI, smart contrast agents and sensors, and aptamer-based technology.
With the rapidly falling price of computer and hard drive storage, the price of buying the storage necessary to back up the neuronal and synaptic connections in the brain is coming into reach of regular U.S. consumers with the appropriate financing.
With 86bn neurons and 100tn connections the total cost of the data and metadata storage is around $80K.
We also provide products and services to physicians and researchers who wish to map and image tissue at high resolution without destroying the tissue or killing the animal. This approach allows new research into learning, memory, cognition, and brain development, which is difficult at current imaging resolutions.
