The concept of agency has become widely used in learning research, especially in studies addressing professional and workplace learning, but also in policy discussion on how to promote meaningful careers. The suggested conceptualization is summarized in terms of seven propositions conceptualization of professional agency at work. Three types of agency: individual, proxy, and collective. Individual agency is when a person acts on his own behalf, whereas proxy agency is when an individual acts on behalf of someone else (such as an employer).
