For over four generations, the family has operated M.A. Mortenson Companies, Inc., a privately-held, diversified construction enterprise. As one of the largest contractors in North America, Mortenson has over 7,000 team members and 11 North American offices completing projects in renewable energy, sports stadiums, hospitals and data centers.
Vermilion seeks to make control investments in great businesses, that are doing good, and have a commitment to achieve social and environmental impact. We target strong impact and competitive financial returns. Vermilion invests in cash-flow positive and growing companies, and works alongside management to scale the impact and value created by these businesses.
Investment Criteria
Privately held businesses (founder/proprietor/family) seeking a partner for growth
Impact-oriented companies: impact can be achieved through culture, product/service and/or business operations
Proven and high-performing management teams
Opportunity for growth and improved financial performance
Lower middle market companies ($5-75M of revenue and $2-12M of EBITDA)
Transaction types include control buyouts, sponsor led transactions (in partnership with like-minded principal investors, growth equity and family office co-investments
Strong preference for Upper Midwest/Great Lakes based companies
Sector agnostic (prior experience across manufacturing, distribution and business services)
