Lamar Small is the Managing Partner of Silver Beach Capital Partners. With over 15 years of investment experience and 6 years of engineering expertise, he leads SBCP in identifying, acquiring, and operating small businesses.
Before founding SBCP, Lamar was an Investment Director at the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, where he managed portfolio strategy, investment selection, and oversight of the Trust's $8.5 billion Private Credit portfolio. Prior to this, he served as a Senior Hedge Fund Researcher at Mercer, conducting due diligence on hedge fund managers for multi-billion-dollar direct portfolios. Earlier in his career, Lamar was a Quantitative Modeling Associate at Credit Risk Management, where he developed proprietary quantitative models for financial institutions, and an Analyst at NCM Capital, focusing on equity research in the industrials sector.
Lamar’s six years of engineering experience include designing automotive components and managing international projects for Tier I automotive suppliers. His transition from engineering to finance also involved three years of international experience, during which he lived in Japan and Brazil.
Lamar holds an MBA in Investment Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Japanese Studies from the University of Kentucky and is also highly proficient in Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese.
Silver Beach Capital Partners is deeply rooted in Benton Harbor, Michigan, Lamar's hometown. Inspired by the tranquility and reflection he found on the shores of Lake Michigan during his youth, Lamar incorporates these values into his work, fostering a thoughtful and meaningful approach to business.
