In Malcolm Gladwell’s best-selling book, Outliers, Gladwell theorizes that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert at something. If you believe him, then Laura’s 30 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions equates to being an expert 6 times over.
Laura’s career in M&A has spanned both sides of the table, with 20 years working as an M&A advisor for business owners who are selling their company, and 10 years in the middle of her career working as the Director of Corporate Development for a private equity-owned B2B media company, where Laura ran around the world spending other people’s money to acquire tradeshows, conferences, magazines and websites. Sitting on both sides of the negotiating table has given Laura a unique competency in understanding how buyers approach acquisitions and how best to position her sell-side clients to be attractive acquisition candidates.
Over the course of her career, Laura has completed more than 60 transactions, ranging from less than $1 million to more than $200 million in deal value. Her area of highest expertise is in selling small business to large strategic acquirers in industries as diverse as consulting, HR outsourcing, staffing, training, other business services, manufacturers and technology and software companies. She is resourceful in identifying and reaching prospective buyers and employs a dogged determination to get transactions completed that exceed her client’s expectations.
Laura holds an MBA with high honors from Bentley’s McCallum School of Business and a BS Magna Cum Laude in Finance and Economics from Bentley University, where she was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a business school honor society. Laura is President of the Boston chapter of the Exit Planning Exchange, a member of The Boston Club and a member of its Corporate Board Committee. Laura is a frequent writer, speaker and presenter on M&A topics for organizations such as The Commonwealth Institute, Exit Planning Exchange, Boston Women’s Business newspaper, the Enterprise Center at Salem State University, the New England CRO/CMO council and Bentley University.
Laura lives in Westford, Massachusetts with her husband. In her spare time, Laura enjoys hiking in the woods and hills near her home, volunteering as Treasurer at her church, teaching Financial Peace University classes, and most importantly, spoiling her granddaughter.
