Recently a group of specialists undertook a scientific study to assess the ecological state of and establish potential uses of resources associated with Lagoa Poelela. One of the recommendations of the study that included a base line feasibility assessment was to expand the current aquaculture endeavour of Poelela Fisheries. Bearing in mind that local community development and social upliftment must be considered in the allocation of resources associated with Lagoa Poelela for use, the findings of the feasibility assessment as well as results from a pilot project that was launched in the beginning of 2017 has revealed a major opportunity for Local Government, private stakeholders and the local community.
