I'm Steve Marks, founder of Lake Crossing Company: a privately funded business buyer and operator seeking a profitable small business in the Cleveland, OH area to acquire and run for the long term.
I’m an operator and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience across technology, operations, consulting, sales, and small business ownership.
My family and I are relocating to Cleveland in mid-2027, and I am actively searching for companies to acquire and run in the Cleveland area.
My Experience
I owned and operated a real estate brokerage and lead generation firm in downtown Chicago for nearly eight years. I've also held roles in management consulting and technology companies including Twilio and Apple. At Apple, I worked in partner operations on the Apple Pay team, managing the Apple/Stripe relationship which produced over $2.5B in transaction volume per month. Across those experiences, I’ve focused on building teams, improving operations, managing complex partner relationships, and helping businesses scale.
I’m now focused full-time on acquiring and operating a great business for the long term.

Lake Crossing Company is my self-funded acquisition vehicle, formed to acquire and operate an established lower-middle-market business.
I’m primarily focused on businesses with durable customer relationships, recurring or repeat revenue, strong operating histories, and opportunities to build on what an existing owner has created.
Areas of particular interest include B2B and industrial services, facility and infrastructure services, specialty distribution, and other essential service businesses.
My primary geographic focus is Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, with additional interest across the broader Great Lakes region. I am pursuing a long-term ownership model rather than a traditional private equity investment horizon, with the goal of preserving what makes a good company successful while investing in its people, systems, and future growth.
