Half Hitch Brewing Company ("Half Hitch") is a family owned and operated Craft Beer manufacturing business. With the brewery located in Cochrane, Alberta, the location holds one of Cochrane's best destination restaurants featuring patios with amazing views of the mountains and an amazing menu to pair perfectly with the beer.
Half Hitch is a growth oriented company with a focus on vertical integration. The brewery currently manufactures up to 1 million liters per year and has the capacity to quickly expand into 4-6 times the volume in a short period of time. With that, Half Hitch has established a new restaurant model based on a low capital and operating cost, small footprint, takeout and delivery model called The Mash. Currently operating in 5 locations within Alberta, The Mash has received outstanding reviews from the communities surrounding each location.
What makes The Mash unique is their upcycling of the brewers spent grain into their pizza crust. Brewers spent grain is a byproduct of the brewing process. Once the sugars are extracted from the grains in the mashtun, what is left is grains, rich in protein and fiber. This byproduct is what makes the crust in the pizza for The Mash so rich in flavor and nutrients.
What was meant to be a simple model developed around the marriage of beer and pizza has become a massive pendulum of brand awareness. The Mash has been well received in many communities for its green-forward and nutritional attributes. What started out as an idea, has flourished into a high demand model.
Since inception, Half Hitch has secured many high profile locations throughout Alberta to expand The Mash brand. Looking to end 2021 with 10 locations, Half Hitch has discovered the perfect model to expand and best capture significant margins through vertical integration.
