Detroit Renewable Energy LLC is a consortium of renewable-energy generation and distribution companies committed to providing the City of Detroit with safe, reliable and cost-effective solutions for clean energy and waste disposal. Our independent subsidiaries include Detroit Thermal, Detroit Renewable Power, Hamtramck Energy Services, and Detroit Renewable Cooling.
Detroit Renewable Energy was formed in 2010 with the objective of improving the operating efficiency, safety and reliability of Detroit's existing renewable energy and waste infrastructure: the city's energy-from-waste facility (now Detroit Renewable Power) and Detroit Thermal's underground steam loop, serving downtown and midtown Detroit.
Working cooperatively with the City of Detroit, the Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Authority, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324, Utility Workers Union of America, AFL, CIO Local 223, and The Detroit Edison Company (Detroit Edison), Detroit Renewable Energy has attracted $50 million in new investment to the city to upgrade and optimize the system's performance and environmental benefits.

Atlas Holdings is an industrial holding company with operations in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, encompassing more than 70 facilities and employing approximately 8,000 people. Its businesses are engaged in a broad spectrum of industries, including steel, pulp and paper, building materials and wood products, packaging, distribution, energy, capital equipment, and industrial services
This is the second time Atlas has made a significant investment in the State of Michigan to revitalize a business. In 2002, Atlas acquired Michigan Seamless Tube LLC, a South Lyon-based manufacturer of steel tubing that had been idled as a result of a bankruptcy filing and had historic environmental liabilities. Atlas worked collaboratively with the State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and the United Steelworkers Union to restart the operation. More than 250 jobs were created in Oakland County as a result of Atlas’ investment, and the environmental issues on the site have been minimized.
