Cliffton Dry is a unique healthy sparkling apple wine that is fermented in the Charmat Method akin to prosecco, but made with fresh apples instead of grapes. Cliffton Dry is strategically positioned between two of the hottest beverage markets, sparkling wine (prosecco, cava or anything bubbly served in a flute), and sustainable, health and wellness products.
In 2012 Shelagh D’Arcy-Hinds, Cliffton’s founder was developing the positioning for a premium winery on Long Island, while working on this project she saw the trending demand in the market for unique, healthier farm-to-table drinks with an inspirational story that connects with the demand for authentic American products that are low-sugar, low-alchol and naturally made. After spending 20+ years successfully developing brands such as Calvin Klein, Armani, Valentino, Tom Ford and many more, she was able to see how a sparkling wine and apple made light refreshing sparklilng wine that she grew up with in Cape Town could be uniquely positioned in the market.
Shelagh put her agency Darcy&Partners on the back-burner and decided to follow her vision. From 2013 to 2016 raised $1.2 MM to start Cliffton Dry.
From 2013 into 2016 Shelagh focused on perfecting Cliffton Dry lodgistics and unique product fermentation style, developed relationships with production partners, both on the east coast and west coast, and put the regulatory framework in place. With lodgistics and distribution in place, Cliffton Dry focus is on sales. We are registersted to sell in CA, FL, NY, NJ and Nevada (Vegas strip). In NY this year we gone from five WF’s in March in NY to fourteen. And picked up other grocery chains. We partnered with Park Street for lodgistics and self distribution, (who uses Western Carriers for delviery). With our own wholesale license we sell at Farmers Markets throughout NY State. For on-premise, we are currently in conversatin with distributors for NY, Vegas and CA. A selection of our current key positioning accounts are: Joie de Vivre Hotels, Rosemary’s, Cafe Benoit (Allain Ducasse). Sommalier in these resturants have placed Cliffton in the sparkling section of the menu.
With a strong sales and management team in place we are steadily building account and distribution relationships Cliffton Dry has “held back” as much as possible on expansion due to inventory levels. Cliffton Dry has met with hi profile management such as Whole Foods, as well as distributors for Vegas and CA.
Cliffton Dry is currently seeking $500,000 in growth capital so that they are able to expand our inventory. For our next production run and expansion, we have updated our packaging, and we are in the process of trademarking™ a new category name that more specifically describes sparkling apple wine.
