Advantage provides specialty insurance and related services to business owners and high net worth individuals seeking customized insurance solutions for their risk management and financial planning needs. Our predecessor business was founded in 1993 by Ian Kilpatrick, our Vice Chairman and a pioneer in the captive insurance industry. We underwrite Life Insurance and Business Insurance through subsidiaries licensed in the United States and Cayman Islands. We also manage captive insurance companies in the United States and Cayman Islands on behalf of clients worldwide. Our Life Insurance segment specializes in private placement life insurance (‘‘PPLI’’). PPLI policies typically have face amounts, coverage terms and investment features that are not readily available from traditional life insurance companies. The benefits of PPLI include the ability for clients to utilize hedge funds and other alternative investment strategies within their life insurance policies, and to achieve much greater transparency into the fees and expenses associated with a complex life insurance policy than would otherwise be available from traditional insurance markets. All life insurance policies issued by Advantage are directly or indirectly supported by the capital strength of our primary life insurance subsidiary, Advantage Life & Annuity Company SPC. Our Business Insurance segment specializes in the creation of customized risk finance, risk protection and risk transfer solutions for small and medium-sized businesses using captive insurers and other alternative risk transfer methods. In particular, we seek to meet client needs that are not addressed in the traditional insurance marketplace, and to serve clients that are smaller than the typical user of captive insurance solutions. Advantage also underwrites certain risks of its captive insurance clients through Advantage Property & Casualty Company SPC.
