Axial Radar: Direct Lending + The Need For Speed

Happy Friday and welcome to another edition of Axial Radar!

Banks and other traditional lenders have slowly been losing LBO underwriting opportunities for the better part of a decade. Why? Post-financial crisis regulation made it harder for banks to underwrite acquisitions, forcing buyers to look elsewhere for deal financing. Enter direct lenders.

While regulation may have been the catalyst for the direct lending movement, it’s the speed, flexibility, and liquidity of direct lenders that have propelled them to become the deal financiers of choice for today’s private equity buyers. Head over to this week’s featured Industry Trends article to read more about the blistering pace of direct lending activity so far this year, including commentary from two active Axial members and direct lenders.

Our featured buy-side members this week include an industrials-focused investment firm, a technology-enabled staffing company, and a Middle Eastern flexible packaging business. On the sell-side, we’ll introduce you to a merchant banking firm and a 20 year old M&A advisory firm.
