I'm an experienced business operator, advisor and ex-Oliver Wyman principal, having been intimately involved in raising VC funds for a software startup, having been CEO of a biotech incubator where we took a portfolio company public and then sold it, then spent 15 years in the healthcare industry as a strategy consultant serving health insurance, hospital and private equity clients in the US and Canada.
I've decided it's time to buy my own company - preferably here in the Toronto area, but I'd go further for the right company - and I'm just getting my search started. The most obvious fit for me is something in healthcare services or the clinic/medical supplies space. But I'm also open to something in light manufacturing - B2B supplies, parts, tools, or products for the home renovation and building space - or aviation-related services or parts manufacturing.
I'm looking for a company that's got a long history where the founder/operator is looking to retire and hand it off to someone who will continue to care for it and grow it. A company with between $1-3M EBITDA, repeat customers, something a little old-school and simple would be great. But my criteria will evolve as I really get into this process.
