We are in the market for new deals and are investing from our $2.8 billion Fund III. Our investment criteria is as follows:
Equity and structured equity investments in businesses that provide significant decarbonization impact across sectors like industrials and manufacturing, chemicals and materials, energy efficiency and fuels, and food and agriculture, among others
Minimum check size of $100m, ideally $200m-$400m+ investments
Underlying technologies should be proven with advantaged unit economics and TAM should be large
We can do control investments, buyouts or be minority investors with a clear path to control
In situations where we are building manufacturing capacity to scale up a company, we target 20%+ unlevered returns and each manufacturing plant ideally costs <$100m and has a FID of <1 year, construction period of <18 months, and shows a path to contracted supply and offtake. We have a deep bench of engineers and operating partners who help in this process
We ideally want to invest in businesses that save 60%+ more carbon vs. the incumbent technology. Ara has an internal decarbonization team who can quantify these savings
Ara also has an Infrastructure fund (closed in May) and an Energy fund, and we can look at new investments from all these funds
We invest in the US, Canada, UK and Europe
